METROPLEX SENIOR SOFTBALL ASSOCIATION-MINUTES
- Tom Athens, President, called the meeting to order at 11:00a.m.
- The Board recited the Lord’s Prayer.
- The Board said the Pledge of Allegiance.
- Tom Athens led a roll call for teams that were in attendance; 27 of 28 teams attended; Southlake Hornets unable to attend
- There was a motion and a second to approve the November 15, 2022 minutes. The motion passed.
- Mike McLothin, Treasurer, gave the Treasurer’s report. Receipts were $76; after expenses, the current balance is $3923.50. There was a motion and a second to approve the report. The motion passed.
- Tom Athens provided the following general announcements
A. The projected 2023 Spring League opener is April 4th.
B. Only Dudley Thunder softballs supplied by the league will be used for league games
C. League & insurance fees remain the same for 2023. ($20 per team / $15 per player). Insurance is a $2M liability policy covering City fields, coaches, players and BOD
D. Cash, check or Zelle pay to Mike McLaughlin (Zelle address is: SeniorSoftballDFW@gmail.com)
E. New Senior 70+ Division (West)
F. Sachse Rangers have dropped out of MSCSA 65+East
G. Team Roster Forms are updated on the website are now 8.5 1x 11
H. Next Coaches Meeting scheduled for March 28, 2023 (team registration deadline), 11a.m.
I. Spring schedules will be provided on March 28 at registration unless cities parks departments need them sooner
J. Motion was made to amend the MSCSA Constitution; motion passed. Amendment addresses the process for adding new players to rosters after start of regular season
K. Jersey for Ritchie Windle was signed by Coaches. Ritchie was a long time MSCSA player and Board member who was recently admitted to the hospital
8. New Business was opened for discussion by Tom Athens.

B. CPR Training (Steve C): Key steps discussed included
1. Recognize situation for cardiac event by feeling for pulse
2. Call 911
3. Administer chest compression to sternum
4. Discontinue chest compression when pulse established
C. The Breakout Meetings by Divisions
1. 60+ Division (6 teams)
A. Pitcher’s screen: NO
B. Pitcher’s masks required like in SSUSA: YES
C. End of season tournament: YES
D. Courtesy foul for all league and tournament games: YES
E. Start of second season will be August 29th: YES
2. The 65+ Divisions East has 7 teams, West has 7 teams)
A. Pitcher’s screen: NO
B. Pitcher’s masks required like in SSUSA: NO but Optional
C. Start of second season will be August 29th: YES
D. End of season tournament last week of October: YES (Format to be determined at end of First Season)
E. East and West teams on bye week encouraged to schedule scrimmage/friendly game not to be counted in standings
3. 70+ Division (8 teams)
A. Pitcher’s masks required like in SSUSA: NO but Optional
B. Pitcher’s screen: YES but Optional
C. Batted ball hitting pitcher’s screen: YES (rules include 1 do over when screen hit, after 2nd hit screen batter is out)
D. Double headers will be played if both coaches agree: YES
