A group of local athletes is proving that age is no barrier to competition, camaraderie, and staying active.
The DeSoto Legends, a senior softball team made up of players ages 65 and older, represents the city in a regional division that includes nine teams from across North Texas.
Competing teams hail from Richardson, McKinney, Farmers Branch, Lewisville and Mesquite, providing a consistent level of competition throughout the season.
The Legends play games twice a week, taking the field every Tuesday and Thursday morning from April through September, weather permitting.
Over the past year, the team completed a 36-game schedule, demonstrating both consistency and commitment from its players.
Beyond competition, the team serves as a platform for healthy living and social connection among older adults. Players remain active through regular games while building relationships that extend beyond the field.
Team organizers say they are focused on recruiting additional players to join the roster, with the goal of expanding participation and encouraging more residents in the 65-and-older age group to stay physically active.
The team is open to experienced players as well as those looking to return to the sport after time away.
The Legends’ presence reflects a broader effort to promote wellness and engagement among seniors in the DeSoto community.
By maintaining a structured schedule and competitive environment, the team offers an opportunity for older adults to remain involved in athletics while supporting one another.
Community members interested in joining or learning more about the DeSoto Legends are encouraged to reach out to the team for additional information.

Since I’ve retired I no longer have any need for these two very nice softball bats. If you might hear of anyone that would be interested in buying them I’d really like to sell them. The Ultra II is a 30 ounce and the Miken Big Cat model is a 27 ounce. Both cost a little over $200 new and I would like to sell them for $100 each. They are in like new condition. If you hear of anyone interested please let me know and feel free to give them my email address (gray.gary@yahoo.com) or my cell number of 214-861-5512.
Thanks again……..Gary Gray

Pickleball/Softball Get Together Feb 13,2026
Thank you to all for your participation in the Pickleball/Softball Get-together. It seemed to come off pretty smoothly.
The winning team was from the Farmers Branch Codgers, Randy Trammell and Terry Carlin. The runner-up team was from the Keller Warriors, Kevin Hill and Don Smith. The final match was very close, 15 – 13.
Please let me know what you thought of the tournament. For the facility, I know I hated the lines, they were close to invisible. Also, the two courts closest to the entrance had a huge glare from the glass entry doors.
If we were to do this again at that facility, I would move all the games away from the courts by the entry doors. I would also bring some 2 in. painters tape and mark the kitchen line and the end line. The side lines did not seem to be a big problem.
I hope each of you enjoyed playing against some familiar faces and some new faces. I had fun even though my play penalized my partner Wendel to a great extent. Let me know what you think and if you would do it again say in the next off season like in January.
Good luck in the upcoming softball season.
Bill Smith
Mesquite Generals

On Sept 11th, the Mesquite Generals, Richardson Raiders, Mesquite Old Pros, and Farmers Branch Codgers got together before their games in Mesquite for a short prayer and moment of silence to honor all victims of political violence in our country.

Senior humor; thought you might share on MSCSA blog. The wheelchair one depicts the courtesy runner…lol
