METROPLEX SENIOR SOFTBALL ASSOCIATION-MINUTES Nov 19, 2024
- Tom Athens, President, called the meeting to order at 11:05a.m.
- All attendees recited the Lord’s Prayer.
- All attendees said the Pledge of Allegiance.
- Tom Athens led a roll call for teams that were in attendance.
- There was a motion and a second to approve the March 19, 2024 minutes. The motion passed
- Mike McGlothin, Treasurer, gave the Treasurer’s report at the February 22 meeting Ending Balance from 2/22/24 was $4,010.87. Deposits were $23,333.97 and Expenses were $8,626.34. After expenses, the ending balance is $8,810.50. There was a motion and a second to approve the report. The motion passed.
- New Business
- Newly completed revised Constitution & Bylaws posted on website under ABOUT MSCSA Please review for 2025 ratification vote.
- League Play Schedule Dates for 2025 Spring Schedule (Apr 1, 2025 -June 26, 2025), Fall Schedule (Aug 5th – Sept 26th, 2025). Month of July Off.
- If required and/or necessary division realignments. Teams are to report to Executive Board by END OF DECEMBER which Division they plan to play in for the 2025 Season.
- Recognition of 2024 Division Winners: Senior Men 60+ – Dallas Flames, Senior Men 65+ East – Richardson Road Runners, Senior Men 65+ West – Southlake Hornets, Senior Men 70+ – Arlington Greyhounds.
- Brief discussion of women minimum age requirements in Senior Men 70+ division (breakout after meeting, no vote or decision will be taken or made)
- New home plate mats have been purchased. These mats will be all black in color and will be 34-1/2” long by 19” wide. Catchers can touch any part of the matt to record an out. These mats are similar to mats being used by SSUSA.
- Election of the offices of Vice President and Treasurer.
- Vice President: Jim Gibbons nominated and seconded for another term and was elected with majority vote
- Treasurer: Mike McGlothin nominated and seconded for another term and was elected with majority vote
- Member-at-Large: Steve Corder resigned his position due to work and time commitments. Nominations were made from the floor for his replacement; Wayne Bauer (Mesquite Generals) and Anthony Massa (Lonestar Bandits) were both nominated and seconded. Anthony Massa had a majority vote and will complete the term for the Member-at-Large position for 2025.
8. General Announcements:
- First coaches meeting of 2025 will be held either in January or Feb 2025. Date to be determined.
- Executive Committee is considering hosting a “preseason tournament(s) that would be scheduled the first week in April 2025. This tournament would be free to all registered MSCSA teams and would be run by the Executive Committee. Format and locations being studied at this time. Raise of hands was asked for to indicate interest and support for the “preseason tournament. Strong majority was shown.
- The Executive Committee is in the process of officially applying for a federal tax-exempt number and applying as a non-profit organization.
- 14th Annual Golf Tournament was a success. 66 golfers participated; great weather and $874 was raised for the league.
8. Tom Athens adjourned the meeting. After the adjournment, teams for each group division met separately to discuss issues specific to their division.
