Metroplex Senior Softball Association Minutes-November 9, 2023

METROPLEX SENIOR SOFTBALL ASSOCIATION-MINUTES

  1. Tom Athens, President, called the meeting to order at 11:00a.m.
  2. All attendees recited the Lord’s Prayer.
  3. All attendees said the Pledge of Allegiance.
  4. Tom Athens led a roll call for teams that were in attendance;  ­­­­­­All Teams except Desoto Dukes 60+ , Desoto Dukes 65+, and Dallas Flames attended.
  5. There was a motion and a second to approve the August 8, 2023 minutes. The motion passed.
  6. New Business
    A. Nomination and Election for the League office positions of President, Secretary, and Member-At-Large players. Tom Athens, Steve Johnson and Steve Corder were re-elected unanimously, and ran unopposed.

    B. A financial audit in accordance with our bylaws Article V will be conducted for the period of Jan 1, 2023 through Nov 8, 2023.  Final report is due to the President by Dec 29, 2023.  Auditors are: Dennis Bashore, Dave Riddle, and Thomas Rutledge.

    C. Motions for 2024 League Play. Valid motions with a second were discussed but 
    not voted on until the January or February 2024 Meeting.  This gives time for coaches to discuss proposed changes with their teams.   Any motion that affects all divisions of play will be decided by the entire membership.  Following are Motions made and Seconded

    Motion 1: Home Runs – a second HR before other team hits a HR will be considered an OUT
     Current rule is a second HR is a single
    Motion 2:
    Midseason Break (July and August – 9 weeks) – Start 1st week of April and ends last week of June.  Start 2nd half of season the  last week of August or first week of September and runs through end of October.  Tournament to be played 1st week of November
    Motion 3: 
    Midseason Break (5 weeks) – End 1st half of season on July 18 with 5 week break  (Start 2nd half of season on August 27
    Motion 4: Midseason Break  (4 weeks) – Start 1st week of April and end last week of June.  Start 2nd half of season on July 30; 4-week break


    Motion 5: 
    Midseason Break  (2 weeks) – Start 1st week of April and end last week of June.  Start 2nd half of season on July 16; a 2-week break

    Motion 6:  
    League champion to be determine by total season record; no 1st half/ second half champion


    Motion 7: Change commit line to 30 ft. from current 20 ft.  
    Change makes MSCSA in line with SSUSA rule

     


7. Tom Athens provided the following general announcements:

          A. Winners: Senior Men 60+ – Dallas Flames, Senior Men 65+ –East Farmers Branch Codgers, Senior Men 65+ West – Southlake Hornets, and Senior Men 70+ – Arlington Greyhounds.  Winning team pics are on the website

         B. Annual Annual end of Season Golf Tournament was held on Oct 18that Prairie Lakes Golf Course.   38 Golfers and all seemed to have a good time.

         C. Deaths:  Julian Tamez – Oct 27th (Grand Prairie Cubs) and Ron Forte – Oct 28th (Mid Cities Flyers & Arlington Greyhounds). Across 2023 there have been 6 deaths of MSCSA members

         D. City of McKinney is interested in adding a team to the 65+ East Division.  Steve Johnson is working with McKinney Parks & Rec Dept officials to confirm plans. Steve has talked with several current MSCSA players who have expressed interest in managing the McKinney team.

         E. Next Coaches meeting: TBD in January/February 2024

        F. Closing comments from board members
