Metroplex Senior Softball Association Minutes-November 11, 2025

METROPLEX SENIOR SOFTBALL ASSOCIATION-MINUTES November 11, 2025

  1. Tom Athens, President, called the meeting to order at 11:05 a.m.
  2. All attendees recited the Lord’s Prayer
  3. All attendees said the Pledge of Allegiance
  4. MSCSA Hall of Fame presentations.  The following were recognized for their valuable contributions to the MSCSA across many years:
    David Martin – Umpire Category,
    Clint McElroy – service and contributions to starting MSCSA conception in 1980, and
    Jim Delmar – Lifetime Achievement Category.
  5. Tom Athens led a roll call for teams in attendance.  Following teams were not able to attend: Desoto Dukes, Southlake Crusaders, and Robson Ranch Texans 70+.
  6. There was a motion and a second to approve the July 30, 2025 minutes. The motion passed
  7. Mike McGlothin, Treasurer, gave the Treasurer’s report. Ending Balance from 7/30/2025 was $11,413.19. Receipts were $1,880.00 and Expenses were $2,391.62. After Expenses, the Ending Balance is $10,901.57. There was a motion and a second to approve the report.  The motion passed.
  8. New Business
  • Elections for 2026
    • President: Candidates were Tom Athens and Jim Gibbons. Tom Athens was elected with a majority vote.
    • Member at Large: Anthony Massa, current Member at Large ran unopposed and was elected by show of hands
    • Secretary: Candidates were Steve Johnson and Bob Moran. Steve Johnson was elected with a majority vote.
  • 2026 League dates. Tom and Mike presented a 18 week season starting 3/31/26 and ending 7/31.  A second season starting after a July-August break would be optional for teams wanting to play.  Issues considered when arriving at these dates included: field availability for some cities in August and September, increasing field costs and the number of forfeits at the final weeks of the 2025 season.
  • Reformation of Divisions: Mike presented information that four to five 65+ West Division teams plan to play in the 70+ Division. Lewisville Bandits would like to play in the 65+ East Division.  All teams asked to discuss with their players and confirm the Division they choose to play for in 2026 and notify the League by the February 2026 Coaches meeting.  Schedules will be created for first 18 weeks after the Feb 2026 meeting

 

9.  General Announcements

  • Several new Coaches were acknowledged for the 2026 Season: Dallas Flames – Rex Barnett and Brian Williams, McKinney Mustangs – Gerald Schimick, and Mid City Flyers – Bill Hallman. The previous coaches were thanked for their contributions to their teams and the League.
  • MSCSA golf tournament was held Oct 8th at Prairie Lakes Golf Course. Approximately $900 was raised for the MSCSA.
  • MSCSA will be paying team liability insurance for the 2026 season.
  • 2026 Individual Player Participation fees will increase to $25 per player.
  • 2025 Division winners received Champion medals. Winners were 60+: Dallas Flames, 65+ East: Farmers Branch Codgers, 65+ West: Lewisville Bandits and 70+: Arlington Angels.
  • Steve Johnson prepared a summary of team and player counts that was included as an Agenda attachment; included new players added for the second half and counts by age categories for each team i.e. LT 65, 65-70 and GE 70
  • David Martin has agreed to conduct an umpires training class prior to the beginning of the 2026 season. Date and times are TBD.
  • Final comments offered from the floor: Mesquite Generals suggested holding a Pickleball event. They will look into options and report back at the Feb season.
  • Next Meeting Feb 2026 with date  TBD
