METROPLEX SENIOR CITIZENS SOFTBALL ASSOCIATION
Subject: Association Board Minutes from 11/10/20 Meeting
1. Tom Athens, President, called the meeting to order.
2. Jim Thomas led a prayer.
3. A roll call was taken to confirm all the teams that were represented.
4. Tom lead the Pledge of Allegiance.
5. There was a motion to approve the June 24, 2020 minutes. There was a second and approved.
6. Jim Delmar, Treasurer, reported we had $3,695.04 in the checking account.
7. Tom provided a recap of the 2020 season.
a. The season was shortened due to the Covid-19.
b. The number of teams was reduced from 27 to 17.
c. 6 cases of Covid-19 or exposure affected the schedule.
d. 2020 League Winners
i. 55+ Arlington Cubs
ii. 65+ East Sachse Rangers
iii. 65+ West North Richland Hills Hawks
8. Projected we will have 29-30 teams in 2021
a. 55+ 6-7
b. 65+ West 14-16
c. 65+ East 8-9
9. Nomination of Officers
There was a motion to elect Jim Delmar as Treasurer. It was seconded and approved.
There was a motion to elect Jim Gibbons as VP. It was seconded and approved.
10. Tom recommended we have a non-voting League Historian and Advisor. There was a
motion to add this position. It was seconded and approved. Tom announced that
Clint McElroy has agreed to accept the position.
10. The following are the proposed 2021 Season and Tournament Dates(Subject to Covid)
a. First Half of season: March 30-June 24.
b. Second Half: July 6-Sept 16.
c. Tournaments: Sept 27-Oct 1
d. Golf Tournament: TBD
11. Tom said we still had some commemorative pins for those that have not gotten one.
12. There was consensus that an older division for 70+ players should be offered.
However a decision was not made as to whether the minimum age should be 70, 72 or 75.
Grandfathering of players also needs to be addressed.

13. It was agreed that runner’s lines in the 65+ divisions will NOT be used during the first half
of the season. Prior to the second half play, the coaches will continue or revert back to lines.
14. There was a motion to raise the minimum age for women to 50 for all divisions.
The motion was seconded but not approved.
15. There was a motion to reinstate the rule of a runner being out if leave a base too early.
The motion was seconded but not approved.
16. There was a motion to add a third type of protest.
Currently our protests include rules interpretation and ineligible player.
The motion adds “willful non-compliance of established league playing rules”.
The motion was seconded and approved.
17. There was a motion to have regular season extra inning play mirror MCSA tournament play.
It was seconded and approved.
18. There was a motion to make it an out if a batter carries his bat to first or beyond.
The motion was seconded. During the discussion, Tom pointed out that ASA
rules allow the batter to carry his bat as long as it does not cause any interference.
The motion was not approved.
19. There was a motion to add the “Mercy Rule” to rule play. It was approved.
20. There was a motion to continue not the infield fly rule would no longer be
a rule in the 65+ Div. It was seconded and approved.
21. There was a motion to purchase pitcher’s screens. It was seconded but defeated.
23. There was a motion to split the West 65+ into divisions. It was seconded and approved.
There was a motion to allow the Mesquite Old Prose to move to the “lower” 65+ West Div.
The motion was seconded and approved.
